Clocks are set forward, the days are getting longer, temps are getting warmer, and perennials are blooming all around. You know what that means? Spring has sprung, and ladies that means it is time to Spring up our wardrobe. Here in the Midwest, we have had some really warm days and that makes us want to break out the shorts and sandals.
When it comes to my closet, I tend to invest in a few staple pieces. These are items I will spend a bit more on, because I know they will last for several years to come - from both a quality and a trend standpoint. Then, as each new season comes about, if there is a certain trend I want to add to my closet, I will typically try to find those at bargain prices.
As you may have read in my blogs about travel, I recently went to Cabo for a Spring Break trip. This motivated me to pick up a few new things, because let's be honest ... I found some extra pounds during the pandemic and things I already owned were fitting just a bit snug. Here are ten items that have quickly become favorites and I am confident I will be wearing these from now until at least September.
Green Short-Sleeve Sweatshirt - I have never owned a short-sleeve sweatshirt, nor did I know there was such a thing ... until we stopped in Target. This Universal Thread Goods Company version is such a great Spring weight, and the vintage dyed green is so pretty. It also comes in gray and light pink - I may just end up needing more than one of these in another color.
Floral Off-The-Shoulder Blouse - This fun floral designed top can be worn as off the shoulder or boat neck. It is a rayon fabric and drapes nicely with shorts or jeans. It is a great transitional piece and a perfect choice when you need a little more sleeve on Spring days. This find is from Old Navy.
Kut from the Kloth Gidget Denim Shorts - I also ordered several pairs of blue denim raw hem shorts, and these were my favorite by far. This particular brand tends to fit my shape really well, and so I also purchased a pair of their jeans. Again, the shorts have a 4-inch inseam, which covers all that I want them to.
OluKai Pehuea Li Sneakers in Tapa - I picked these up last Summer, and I have worn them nearly every day. They are lightweight, super comfortable, and look so cute when you need something a little more protective and comfortable than a sandal. They come in five different colors, and have a unique feature called a "drop in heel" that allows you to wear them as a mule for a quick slip on. As you have probably figured out by now, I am partial to companies that give back to the betterment of the world in some way, and OluKai gives a portion of every pair of shoes sold to Ama OluKai foundation, which honors those who serve and celebrate the cultural heritage and Aloha spirit of Hawaii.
Sorel Ankle Strap Sandals in Warm Gold - Ashley bought these right before we left for Cabo, and I loved them so much that I had to order a pair for myself. They are super adorable and comfortable, too. You can find them in 14 different color combinations, some with jute on them and some with metallic/shimmery touches.
Camo, Leopard, & Vintage Dye Shirt - From Urban Edge Boutique in Kearney, MO. I love this mixed fabric casual tee. It's so fun and comfortable.
Kut from the Kloth Jeans - Here in the Midwest, we are feeling all nice and warm during the day, but the temps still drop into the 40's at night. So, we must keep our jean game on point throughout the Spring season. As mentioned above, this brand of jeans is a perfect fit mom-bods and middle-aged women, because they have a good bit of stretch which forgives in all the necessary places. I love this particular style because the frayed hem hits right at the ankle, making them perfect for pairing with sandals, ankle cut booties, as well as the Olukai sneakers.
Söfft Perforated Suede Boots - These boots are incredibly comfortable and easy to walk in. Don't let the suede description deceive you into thinking these are for colder weather. The perforated holes in these shoes make them perfect for Spring all the way through Fall. The slight heel gives them the right amount of fancy, but without discomfort. The footbed is cushioned at the ball, arch and heel! These are so adorable for Sunday church dresses or for country concerts with a dress, jeans or shorts.
Yellow Waterproof Rain Jacket - We don't get Spring flowers without rain showers. And, I assume you've heard the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song that says, "if we're ever gonna see a rainbow, we have to stand a little rain." So, when rainy days come along, this bright yellow jacket from Joules puts a smile on my face -- most likely created by the nautical vibe it gives off. It totally blocks the wind, repels the rain, and looks absolutely adorable in the process. I actually took this on an Alaskan cruise with me two years ago and it was perfect!
Linen Collared Dress in Rust - I found this at TJ Maxx, and I was excited to see it is available on their website. As you probably know, not all of their items are available in all stores or on their website. I love this dress because it is so comfortable and forgiving. If you look closely at the image, you will see that the sides of the dress have these rib knit stretchy inset panels - therein lies the secret to the comfort! You can wear it with trendy sneakers or sandals.
To pair with all of these fun essentials, I've included a few of my favorite earrings from a local designer, Kristi Pierce Designs. We absolutely love her designs and have several pairs of her earrings. You can purchase online and ship right to your doorstep at super reasonable prices.
The black and gold hoops with the mustard tassels provide a fun boho vibe to a casual outfit or a touch of spunk to a dressy outfit. Of course, as gals who love the water and all things outdoors, we are loving the natural vibe that the Havana Wooden Hoops give off. The Mallory Circle earrings provide a beautiful array of colors to brighten your face even more on sunny days!
